Washing Instructions and Stain Removal for our all natural fiber Renaissance Clothing

What can you recommend as far as washing instructions?

All of our Renaissance Clothing is made from all natural fibers, and can be machine washed using cold water, cool tumble or line dried.  To be kind to the all natural fibers, and make it last longer, we suggest you use no bleach products. Our all natural fiber cotton clothing is pre-shrunk. The all natural fiber raw silk noil garments will soften as the sizing comes out and the color modulate a bit like your favorite pair of jeans, when tossed into a cool dryer. You may want to line dry your all natural fiber silk noil clothing, or use one of the more gentle laundry detergents to keep the colors brighter. For the Simcha Shirts we recommend removing the tie string before washing to prevent any staining.

Help!  I have a *insert a word* stain.  What can I do to get it out?
From coffee to wine, your best bet is to try to clean any stain while it is fresh. If you are not able to change out of your renaissance clothes and remove a stain right away, please do not "set" the stain in by washing and drying it until you have tried these methods below.

  1. This method can be used on whites or colored items. Soak in cold water with an Oxy-type cleanser along with your regular laundry detergent. Rinse well, then check to make sure the stain has been removed. If so, skip the next sections and dry as recommended (cool setting on dryer or hang dry).

  2. This method can be used on whites or colored items. If the stain persists, rinse all detergents out of garment. Next, try making a paste with the Oxy-type cleanser and water, and put this on the stain on both sides of the material. Gently rub material together. Run water through this area, then check to make sure the stain has been removed. If so, skip the next sections and dry as recommended (cool setting on dryer or hang dry).

  3. This method can be used on whites or colored items. If the stain persists, rinse all detergents out of garment. Grab your salt shaker - yes, salt! Liberally wet the stained area, and pour salt onto it. Wait a few minutes, then very gently rub the material together. Let the garment dry, then run water through this area and check to make sure the stain has been removed. If so, skip the next sections and dry as recommended (cool setting on dryer or hang dry).

  4. This method can Only be used on white garments. To be kind to the fabric and make it last longer, we suggest you use no bleach products. Cotton and all natural fibers clothing simply last longer without the use of bleach. This is due to the fact that bleach will, over time, eat away at the fabric, and is the reason we see tiny holes, or rips appear in t-shirt and undergarments. With all that said it may be time to try this last resort. Make sure when you place your garment into the washing machine, add other white items with it so the bleach won't be swirling around this one item. Cold water wash with the recommended amount of bleach and normal laundry detergent.

Hopefully, by this point, your stain is gone and you may dry your garment as recommended (cool setting on dryer or hang dry). In general, as part of the normal washing of your clothing, try to avoid the use of bleach products. Your wonderful all natural fiber garments will last longer, and you can help avoid the "yellowing" effect bleach can have.
